We are pleased to announce that the CHS Alliance will organise a conference on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) on 5 September 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand, focusing on good practices in investigations of allegation of SEA by aid workers.

The conference, aimed at those responsible for the implementation of PSEA measures within their organisation (managers, human resources specialists, or key decision-makers), will offer a safe space for participants to exchange experiences of challenges and opportunities, with the presence of a panel of experts, which should result in valuable learning for all to take back to their organisations.

It will be followed on 6 September 2016 by a one-day workshop offered for free to all conference attendees. They will be able to choose from three topics: Introduction to PSEA, PSEA and Investigations for Managersand Introduction to the Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS). The CHS Alliance will also offer an Investigations workshop in Bangkok the week before the conference from 30 August to 2 September. This workshop demonstrates how to conduct fair, thorough and confidential investigations into complaints of staff misconduct, with a particular focus on allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse of affected populations. 

Effective investigations are an important step in preventing and addressing sexual exploitation and abuse by aid workers. But in practice, limited capacity, stressful processes, protection of survivors and witnesses, and other concerns have challenged organisations. There have been repeated calls for greater accessibility to best practice and support from experts, and yet constraints such as the need for confidentiality and concern for organisational reputation have meant that sharing of learning has been limited. Our events offer participants the opportunity to build their capacity in the area of PSEA and address its challenges.

The PSEA conference and the one-day workshops will be open for registration from the beginning of March. All events will be hosted by World Education Thailand, a field office of Boston-based World Education Inc.
