Man faces multiple charges in domestic violence case
in jail following his arrest by Quartzsite police two weeks ago for
allegedly physically and sexually assaulting his girlfriend.
According to Lt. Mike Ewald of the Quartzsite police, between
midnight and 5 a.m. on April 23, the man, now identified as 45-year-old
Travis Hopkins, continuously assaulted a woman at a residence in the
600 block of East Kuehn Street and held her against her will.
Hopkins fled the scene in the victim’s car before police arrived. The
43-year-old victim was then transported La Paz Regional Hospital with
severe injuries.
“The victim and Hopkins had been in about a two- or three-week
relationship
relationship
when the incident happened,” Ewald said. “We have a zero tolerance
for domestic
for domestic
violence in Quartzsite.”
Ewald said Hopkins was located the following day at approximately
11 p.m. in the

city of Ehrenberg, west of Quartzsite and just across the Colorado River

Hopkins, who was armed with a knife, was found hiding in an abandoned
trailer in

without incident. He was booked into the La Paz County Detention Facility.
Assisting Quartzsite police in the arrest were the Arizona Department of Public
Safety,

Hopkins has been charged with five counts of aggravated assault per domestic
violence, one count of attempted aggravated assault, attempted sexual assault
per domestic violence, and kidnapping per domestic violence.
He has also been charged with robbery, theft of means of transportation, driving
with a suspended/revoked or cancelled license, threatening and intimidating and
preventing

Andrew Wilder, a spokesperson for the Arizona Department of Corrections

explained that a warrant was issued for Hopkins’ arrest on Feb. 19 for violating

conditions of his community supervision, which he was required to abide by until

As a result, Wilder said Hopkins, who was released on Jan. 26, will eventually be
returned

to the custody of the DOC where he will serve the remainder of the sentence he was
serving at the time, in addition to any sentence he may receive from the Quartzsite case.
